The final track, a reworking of the oft-sampled Hall & Oates’ I Can’t Go For That takes it in a different direction to the regular hip hop sample. Out of Bondage has a slinky feel to it, almost like it could have come straight out of a 70s porno, while Let It Happen feels very 80’s in its execution. This track in particular has a strong organic sound to it with numerous instruments used. Loco Moto started out with a beat that almost sounded like an abstract James Bond theme before it launched into a loungey jazzy intermission. One of the best tracks on the album is Marrakech, an exotic sounding tune that evokes the sound of bygone Arabian nights with a funked up core. Das EFX’s track Real Hip Hop is given a crossover motown and big band treatment, sounding quite different to the original. Just Can’t Get Enuf is the first hip hop track, with a smooth beat and rhymes, while Request Line is a slight reworking of Zhane’s 1997 track. Guarambembere heads back into Latin territory with saxophone and trumpets to boot, sounding almost like a slowed down carnivale song. Surprisingly, the slightly funked up track works well. The beat feels worn and heavy, with simple drums and vocal snippets looped over and over. Aretha Franklin’s 1971 hit Rock Steady is also given a dirty beat treatment, transforming it into Rocksteady Skank. This stays fairly true to the Elkin & Nelson original but gives it that sort of dirty edge. The Latin sounding Jibaro, with its understated beat and horn section is topped off by the foreign language vocals. The Intro starts out with a short pulsating beat that is given a more robust sound with the inclusion of synthesisers, setting the listener up for a fun filled summer afternoon ride. Here he returns with an album of reworks and remixes entitled, Brand New Secondhand.
