You have to play each battle from beginning to end without interruption. These battles can last a long time, sometimes longer than an hour. Most of your time will be spent in battle.

The story still didn't make sense and seemed like just a bunch of random events thrown together, like a series of alternate, parallel universes that can be tied conveniently tied together at the whim of the developer. I'm not a fan of trial and error, especially in strategy games, but because this game is so heavily associated with the storyline, making it unique, I was more intrigued than annoyed. It's virtually impossible to predict what actions are required to bring about a specific event, and that's where the trial and error come in to play. It's only after you make a few changes that you can see what effect the changes have on the future. It's loaded with all kinds of characters and situations, all of which don't seem to be interconnected.
It's actually more confusing to explain than it is to experience it.
If that sounds confusing, that's because it is. She is able to go back in time to continue her education and collect more spells while attempting to alter the outcome of the future by changing events in the past. As you collect them, you will have access to different powers and abilities. There are three books for each of the different categories for a total of 12. These books are called Grimoires, and are rife with magical spells. As the lessons progress you will receive various books on each of these four categories. There's plenty of depth, excitement, confusion, frustration and fun to be had. It's inextricably tied to the story which you are desperately trying to alter, not to mention figure out. In 2007, Vanillaware released a little-known 2D RTS game, GrimGrimoire, which, while a financial failure, features similar gameplay elements as 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. It is a shame that GrimGrimoire has not received the same attention as 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim despite its flaws and somewhat simplistic narrative, there is more than enough charm to make this unsung gem worth revisiting today.JGrimGrimoire is an interesting real-time strategy game. However, this is not Vanillaware's first RTS game. Vanillaware primarily specializes in action RPGs, with 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim breaking the mold a bit by being a real-time strategy game. The gameplay was met favorably, but it was criticized for being weaker when compared to the game overall, with common complaints of the gameplay suffering from a lack of polish.
Fans and critics have lauded the game for its engaging story, beautiful 2D visuals and music. 2020's 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was met with critical acclaim and sold about 500,000 copies, no small feat for a small game developer like Vanillaware.
